Back to School Lunch and Snack Ideas

Back to school is just around the corner and one of the most important things that you as a parent are probably concerned about is- What can I pack for lunch (and snack)!

The key criteria that every parent looks for when it comes to school lunches are:

  • Litter free

  • Healthy

  • Quick

  • My kid will actually eat it instead of bringing it back the way I packed it!

So now that we’re clear on what we’re looking for, let's get you all set for some exciting lunch ideas that won’t keep you in the kitchen for too long and your kids will absolutely love.

  1. Bagel Pizza: all you need for this is bagels sliced into half, some tomato sauce to spread on and add your preferred kind of grated cheese. Grill until the cheese is melted and it’s ready to go! For variety, you could sprinkle some tomatoes, and onions for a veggie option or even add some pepperoni to the mix.

  2. Ham and cheese sandwich: Three basic ingredients: bread (any kind you prefer), cheese slices and ham stacked together is a staple and so easy to make. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could cut them in different shapes.

  3. Pasta salad: simply boil the pasta, drain and keep aside, and toss with grilled chicken or some veggies along with a dash of extra virgin olive oil and grated cheese.

  4. Hummus and pita bread: Store-bought hummus works just fine with pita bread is a healthy and quick lunch. You could add some baby carrots, cucumber or celery if your little one eats their veggies without you watching over them.

  5. Hotdogs: With a variety of wieners available ranging from turkey, beef, pork and even veggie ones, this is a fan favourite! All you need to go with this is the hotdog bun, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard.

  6. Tortilla chips and guacamole: Store-bought guacamole or homemade even along with some tortilla chips is a super simple option that adds variety to the lunch mix.

  7. Stovetop mac and cheese: When in doubt, good old Mac n cheese to the rescue!

  8. Chicken nuggets: Has a kid ever said no to chicken nuggets? Never! So try your hand at homemade chicken nuggets or store-bought and freshly baked works as well, no judgment here. Add a dip into the mix and you’re good to go.

  9. Banana pancakes: Ever wondered what to do with those over-ripened bananas? Easy! Banana pancakes are a good alternative to the regular school lunch menu.

  10. Tuna Melt: this super simple lunch option is one to try. Mix some tuna with a dash of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, grated cheese, salt and pepper, spread on some garlic or regular bread and bake until the bread is golden brown.

We hope our super simple lunch ideas have made going back to school a little easier for you and we hope you enjoy making them in your beautiful Indesign Kitchen.
