Check out our small budget ideas on how to revamp and upcycle to give your home the makeover it deserves.

Existing furniture doesn't necessarily need to be thrown to the curb or sold for peanuts to the first person who checks out your marketplace ad! Depending on the type of furniture, a few small steps can help you drastically transform these treasures into something completely different.

DIY Painting

Take your family heirloom dressers and tallboys for instance, sanding it and giving it a fresh coat of paint can make a world of a difference. When it comes to paint options, make sure to do your research before you commit to a color and type of paint. Due diligence (and pinterest) can help you come up with a color scheme that works for your room and a type of paint that works for the piece of furniture at hand. Don’t forget doors can be painted over as well, a nice bright coat of forest green, charcoal, red or even yellow can brighten up your driveway appeal if chosen for your garage doors. Choose from a variety of satin, semi- gloss, high-gloss, flat/matte finishes when it comes to paints.

Changing up Upholstery

Upholstery is something that one would think is way too complicated to DIY but low and behold! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! With a plethora of DIY videos and articles showing you step by step how to reupholster, redoing that hallway seat or ottoman is now a piece of cake. Yet again, research is key and keeping in mind the look you’re going for is key to making any of these updates, afterall, the last thing you want is to land up with multiple mismatched pieces of furniture simply because it was easy to do or you preferred a particular pattern for the ottoman but now realize it doesn't go with any of your other pieces.  Alternatively, there are an amazing amount of slip covers available in stores or online that don't cost a fortune but give pieces like an armchair or a couch an easy and much needed makeover, not to forget protection from children and pets.

Antique/ Thrift Experience

Antique stores and thrifting can open up a whole new world and possibly a new hobby for most. Some hidden jewels can be found in these stores if you’re at the right place, at the right time and have patience to look for the needle in the haystack. Don’t limit your search to typical furniture pieces, nowadays people are being quite innovative by picking up unconventional pieces and converting them into pieces of furniture or decor. Wheel barrels, crates, skids and even old suitcases have been successfully transformed into coffee tables, night stands and even sectionals. All you need is a vivid imagination and the will to transform.

We hope our simple and easy DIY tips come handy to your home transformation.
