As Thanksgiving approaches and you plan on welcoming your friends and family into your home, you might be thinking of ways to make it feel more warm and inviting. With a few simple decor adjustments you can transition your home into the cooler months ahead and embrace the fall season to come.

When we think of the fall season there might be a couple things that automatically come into mind like pumpkins or the change in the colours of the leaves and their warm copper tones. Most of the fall decor inspiration comes from the natural environment and reflecting some of these elements into our home decor designs.

Keeping this in mind, here are some home decor ideas that can help prepare your home for Thanksgiving festivities.

Warm Earthy Tones

Beginning with the fall colour palette, some of the colours you may want to consider in your home include brown, red, orange, yellow, beige, and all the shades in between. These colours provide a sense of warmth and comfort and can be used in conjunction with one another.

Plaid Throws

If there is one pattern in particular that can be undeniably associated with the fall season it is plaid. As we see this trend on the runway for cold weather outfits during the autumn days, why not add this into some of your home decor.

You may want to consider plaid throws or accent pillows, or a plaid tablecloth and any other item that you can get your hands on with this pattern.

Crates and Barrels

Another style that can certainly bring out the autumn decor within your home are rustic designs.

The focus is to create a relaxing atmosphere by highlighting the use of wood, stone, leaves and other organic materials.

Crates and barrels can really provide the rustic element of design into your home by adding these as decorative pieces to hold books, scarves, blankets, or even seasonal harvest.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins are the most popular and abundant of the seasonal harvest in the fall. In fact, wherever you turn you are sure to find one nearby. You can find big ones to lay outside on the porch in the front of your home or use smaller ones to place on your dining table. If you are feeling crafty you can even paint them white and use them as decorative pieces.

Scented Candles

As we have covered the visual aspects for your home fall decor, you can also amplify the autumn season inside your home through scented candles. Scents like cinnamon apple, pumpkin spice, fireside, or brown sugar vanilla will really add to this effect while also providing a great visual to any decorative piece.
