Floating Candle Sticks

Ditch the candle holders and steal a scene from your favourite witchcraft and wizardly series with these floating candlesticks. Bring some sorcery to your fireplace, above a doorway or just about anywhere. All you need is wax-coated remote-controlled, batter-operated flameless candles, triple-a batteries, clear fishing thread, clear command hooks and some scotch tape.

Head on over to apartment therapy for their blog on this trend that took Instagram by storm last year. However, we would be remiss if we failed to mention the creator of this trend, Mallory Fletchall of Reserve Home. Check her out for other unique and different ways to decorate your living space.

Put the Jack in your Lantern

Sculpted into a ghastly creature or murderous villain, this Halloween, your pumpkin is cut out to be the most terrifying on the whole block. You don't have to be a professional pumpkin artist to carve a scary scene. All you need is this video from R Humphrey, a little practice, thee correct tools and a twisted imagination.

To make things a little easier for you, start by using a template (you can draw one or print one out online). Trace the pattern onto your pumpkin using any sharp object you might have around the house. Once you’ve marked the outline of the template onto the pumpkin, now it’s time to start carving. For best results, use a pumpkin saw.

DIY Floating Witch Hat Luminaries

For a hocus pocus and Hogwarts-inspired touch to your porch, try these magical floating Halloween witch hats from Polkadot Chair. The hanging witch hats are easy to make and add a different element for trick or treaters to enjoy on hallows eve.

You can use inexpensive witch hats from the dollar store or amazon. You will need a fishing line, safety pins, outdoor command hooks (for lights), and a long needle. For lighting options, consider choosing from a selection of LED light sticks, tea lights or light pucks. Be sure to check out Polkadot Chair’s instruction video and detailed blog, including advice from other DIYers.
